Formica Group x Pablo Erroz
Renowned Mallorcan designer Pablo Erroz presents his new collection for the 2025 season at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid - The Hotel - a space where people, disciplines, and crafts converge. A place where everything happens and connects, under the watchful eyes of its guests and the lights of the big city.
The collection offers a broad and global proposal, free from seasonal constraints, with a heightened emphasis on womenswear. It blends fabrics such as silks, wools, Mallorcan-made ikats, sequins, cottons, and the brand’s signature nappa leathers. The collection embraces sophisticated and versatile silhouettes, reintroducing iconic pieces from the past. With an emphasis on durability and timelessness, it seeks to minimise the impact of production while highlighting the importance of cross-industry and craft collaborations.
To bring this vision to life, Erroz partnered with Formica Group, a renowned international laminate manufacturer with a strong presence in Valencia. This partnership focuses on reclaiming materials damaged by the DANA storm, giving them a new purpose in crafting part of The Hotel's furniture, as well as designing unique accessories and distinctive fashion pieces.
A tribute to the people of Valencia
After the DANA, many materials stored at the Formica Group's Valencia plant were damaged. Inspired by the idea of symbolic recovery, the Marketing department proposed repurposing some of these materials as a tribute to the resilience and strength of the Valencian people and their traditional craftsmanship.
To achieve this, two essential elements from Formica Group’s daily operations were selected. First, the collection catalogues, each containing over 300 samples of vibrant colours used by designers, architects, and manufacturers worldwide to bring their projects to life. Second, the HPL laminate sheets - the brand’s core material - essential for carpenters, and manufacturers in the creation of surfaces and furniture.
Erroz transformed these reclaimed materials into statement pieces within his collection, crafting three iconic garments - a top, a jacket, and a dress - adorned with the black laminate F2253 Diamond Black. The material was cut into small rhombuses of varying sizes and manually stitched in a checkerboard pattern, resulting in designs that exude brilliance, movement, and character.
Additionally, he designed an exclusive line of accessories for both the collection and the attendees of the runway show, crafted from reclaimed samples taken from Formica Group’s catalogues.
A Recovery Process Rooted in Values and Hope
The creation of these pieces carried an even deeper meaning, as they were crafted in Valencia with the aim of giving visibility and support to local artisans, as well as a group of individuals with diverse abilities who work daily towards professional inclusion and personal development.
The workshops of ARTEVAL (Valencia Association of Artisans) and COVE (Virgen de la Esperanza Occupational Centre) played a key role in bringing this project to life, contributing their expertise, dedication, and artisanal talent. The participants from COVE undertook the meticulous task of recovering and cleaning hundreds of pieces from Formica Group’s sample catalogues. Meanwhile, the artisans from ARTEVAL used these reclaimed pieces to craft each of the earrings and brooches designed by Pablo Erroz for the runway show and its attendees.
Additionally, Mónica Curvetto (MondeVal) - one of ARTEVAL’s skilled seamstresses - was responsible for the intricate sewing process, attaching Formica® laminate pieces onto the garments designed by Erroz for his collection.
This entire process was not only an exercise in creativity and material recovery but also a testament to solidarity and hope, where fashion, design, and inclusion came together to turn adversity into an inspiring story.
